I used to doubt why we choose to give them electricity and Internet rather than giving them help in agriculture or education. Now I know, it breeds more possibilities. Having electricity can be the chance to continue your study, to enlarge your business or even to create something new. Engineering to me, is the basis of the development of a country, an auxiliary to other dimensions, and also an important way of making a difference.
I still remember the time when I applied for this service learning subject. I said “I want to make a difference”. Now, I can proudly say to myself, I did, to those villagers

Student Story & Reflection
There was a lady who inspired me a lot in the project. In the last day of service, an old lady suddenly came to us, shook our hand and talked to us excitedly. Although we did not fully understand what she is talking about in Khmer, we knew that she was thanking us for what we did for them. At that time, I finally understood the meaning of the project I did. The things that are not meaningful to us do not mean not meaningful to them. This is the most unforgettable moment throughout the whole project.

This experience prompted me to rethink what leadership means and realise my potential of being a leader. At first, I thought leaders are people who speak the loudest, give commands to others and actually lead the team. Yet, my understanding of leadership has changed. To me, the person who possesses leadership qualities is able to make a change and impact to the team. We need not to be great or speak out loud to become a leader. A leader can emerge naturally in a team and everyone can be a leader.

I am going to serve everyone with a humble heart regardless their background, social status etc.. I am a medical student and a future physiotherapist. The nature of my future career is in line with service. The empathy used to serve Cambodian and patients are the same.When I serve my patients, I will implement the accurate attitude I learnt in service learning.
